Rebecca Julia Brown LIVE on Switchback August 22nd, 9PM EasternBorn in Chicago, Illinois, 15-year-old Rebecca Brown showed her interests in music at a very early age, when she was 18 months old she would hum the whole entire Nutcracker Suite. Rebecca started her musical studies at this age through the Suzuki-Orff Baby Steps Program and at 4 years old started formal guitar lessons with Julia Miller. At age 9, Rebecca was featured on the national radio program “From the Top” as one of the youngest guitarist ever featured on the program (www.fromthetop.org). One year later, she received a call from the programs producers about an upcoming film in which Paramount Pictures was looking for classical guitarists. When the film's five-month casting process began, producers and directors all agreed to cast children who were already trained musicians. That's when they turned to From the Top and Rebecca. She was cast for the role of Katie the bassist of the band in the movie, School of Rock. (www.schoolofrockmovie.com) An "Artist of Tomorrow Gifted Scholars Award" recipient at the Music Institute of Chicago, was also featured in the Young Steinway Series in December 2003. She has had numerous master classes with Jason Vieaux, Joseph Pecoraro, Seth Himmelhoc h and David Madsen. She has also received countless "Merit Scholarship Awards" at the Music Institute and was featured on WFMT's "Introductions" Program. She received the honor of performing in Music in the Loft's Young Award Winners Concert in March of 2007 and in NPR's Capitol Hill Day Concert hosted by "From the Top" in Washington, DC. Most recently, she was a two time first place winner at this year's Granquist Vocal Competition for her musical theatre solo & duet performances. Rebecca is pursuing a musical career as she is currently studying guitar, voice, musical theatre and is playing bass in her own band (www.myspace.com/sweetrevengemusic).
