What is a Fan Meet?

In its’ simplest form a fan meet is just a time when fans gather to see a show together.  Over the years fan meets have become much bigger and more planned, but the essential part is that you and other fans see a show at the same time.

When are fan meets?

Fan meets happen year round. The largest ones typically happen during the summer when peoples schedules will allow travel.  Most large meets(sometimes called monster meets) happen during the summer months, but a varying number of mini meets happen through-out the year.

What is a monster meet?

A monster meet is just a term that was coined when a meet hit a very large number.  I believe the first BML planned Chicago meet was the first to be called a monster meet because its’ numbers exceeded 50 people.  Directly following that meet the Las Vegas also had a very high number.  Some people want to associate the term “monster meet” with meets that the BML plans, but that is not the case.  The main difference between a monster meet and any other is the level of planning that is involved.  Planning for monster meets usually starts well in advance of the date.  In the end a fan meet is a fan meet and usually those attending or planning are the ones who will call it a mini-meet or monster meet.

What is a mini meet?

A mini meet is exactly the opposite of what a monster meet is (as the name implies). It is typically a much smaller group of people.  Where monster meets have a lot of planning mini meets usually consist of a few people saying they are going to the same show.  A typical mini meet starts usually when a fan post in the BML forums that they are going to a show on a certain date and time.  After the post others may jump on board and join this member.  In the end a fan meet is a fan meet and usually those attending or planning are the ones who will call it a mini-meet or monster meet.

What is a fan meet dinner?

With the evolution of the fan meet, more and more has been added to them.  Just like when people go see a movie it is common to “hang out” before the fan meet.  Although done differently for each fan meet most now include a dinner of some sort.  These dinners may be really small and at a “hole-in-the-wall” type place or they may be at some nice big restaurant.  It all depends on the people attending and planning.  It seems that dinners have provided a great “icebreaker” environment for those whom have never been to a fan meet or seen other fans before.  The dinners also give time for old friends to catch up.  Like everything else involved with a fan meet the dinner is optional and not a requirement of any kind.

What are perks?

From time to time while in the forums you may hear about perks during fan meets.  Perks are simply things that Blue Man Productions may give us during a fan meet.  Perks have never been a reason for a fan meet to be planned and hopefully will continue that way. It is something extra that BMP will do for us that really separate themselves from most other companies/artist out there.  A perk should be the icing on the cake or a bonus and not the deciding factor on whether you will go to the fan meet.  Past perks have included: Question & Answer Sessions, backstage tours, gift bags, and listening to sound checks.

Why should I go to a fan meet?

If you enjoy BMG and enjoy the community then there is no better way to spend the day or night than with a group of people who all have this common interest.  Long time friendships have come out of these fan meets as people really get to see how much in common they may have with another fan.  People travel all around the world to attend these and it gives members a chance to talk to someone that they may have never talked to before.  It is an eye opening experience that can’t really be explained. No matter how shy you are there are so many great people in this community to make you feel welcomed and part of the group (because you and thousands others ARE the group).  While you can make great friends on the online community nothing will ever replace talking to these people in person.
